While plans and rumors abound about a lost metro or plans for light rail in two of this country's cities, it currently has a bare transportation infrastructure. Some criticize the country of wanting a metro when it has so many other problems. Others see a metro as a way of helping the country to step up from third world status. And though many see Lagos's choice of BRT (Bus RapidTransit) as an abandonment of their previous commitments, this student of transit
thinks that BRT is just a stepping
stone and a way to cure immediate ills. This is because I believe the government knows that BRT is only a temporary fix. It also knows that a metro will spell R-E-S-P-E-C-T, and offer more profit for grafters and other politicians.
