Cagliari
Light Rail, Interurban

The tram doctor is in! Construction on the metro railway for the Sardinian port started in 1999. Built along the right of way of the Cagliari-Isili railway, the 8.3 km light rail line - I mean metro - was originally designed to be partly in subway. Due to what are likely economic reasons, the mostly single track light railway instead has it's metal twiddly bits perpetually exposed to the atmosphere.
According to the Wiki people, at least eight more lines are planned and two of which are under construction..

Cagliari-Isli railway

Also known as the Monserrato-Isili railway, this interurban spans 70 km. Opened in 1888, it runs in part on local streets and resembles in route construction some of the sections of the Cagliari Metrotram (see above) which replaced part of the line's route in 2008.
